Jim Gott

Mr. James Howard "Jim" Gott, 65, husband of Maureen Ann Gott (nee Bernard) and a resident of Tangier Island, VA, passed away Monday, September 20, 2021, at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, VA.  Born October 6, 1955 in Salem, NJ, he was the son of the late Edward Bernard Gott and Dorothy M. Gott.

In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by his beloved children, Christine and her partner Michael Brooks of Pocomoke, MD, and David of Tangier; his beloved grandchildren, James, Alexia, Jacob and Erin; his brother Edward "Skip" Gott of Florida; and his many cousins including Buddy and Eddie Gott and Chip Ross.  Other than his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Dorothy "Dottie" Gott.

Jim graduated from Ohio Institute of Technology with a Bachelors Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.  His background in engineering took him to Turkey with the Department of Defense, Afghanistan as a military contractor, and Romania with the Missile Defense Agency, as well as working with several prominent companies in the United States in between.

In 2011, Jim and his wife Maureen and son David moved to Tangier Island and became owners of the Bay View Inn, where they have welcomed guests from all walks of life and from many countries.

Jim loved his family and country very much.

A memorial service will be held at Swain Memorial United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 2:00 p.m., with The Reverend Charles W. Parks III officiating.
