Jimmie Johnson

Mr. James R. “Jimmie” Johnson, 89, a faithful servant of the Lord and beloved resident of Parksley, VA, was called home to his Heavenly Father on Sunday, October 12, 2025. He was the devoted husband of the late Linda Anne Trader “Lynn” Johnson, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and partnership.

Born on March 28, 1936, in Southside Chesconessex, VA, Jimmie was the son of the late Maxwell R. Johnson and Emma Jane Gibbons Johnson. He was raised in a Christian home and attended Riverview United Methodist Church with his family, values that remained the foundation of his life. A 1955 graduate of Onancock High School, Jimmie later attended Goldey-Beacom School of Business (now Goldey-Beacom College) in Wilmington, DE.

After graduating from Goldey-Beacom, he went to work at Northampton-Accomack Memorial Hospital (now Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital) in Nassawadox, VA. His career at the hospital spanned more than four decades. Jimmie’s strong work ethic, leadership, and compassion for others led him to retire as Patient Accounts Manager of the hospital – a role in which he touched countless lives across the Eastern Shore.

After marrying the love of his life, Linda, they settled in Parksley and became active members of Grace United Methodist Church, where Jimmie faithfully served on the church board for several years. A man of deep and abiding faith, Jimmie loved the Lord and spent countless hours studying the Bible and sharing God’s Word with others, often gifting friends and strangers alike with pocket Bibles. Known for his kind heart, warm hugs, and genuine spirit, he exemplified Christian love in all that he did. His greatest joy was found in giving – whether supporting local churches, fire departments, or charitable organizations near and far, Jimmie’s generosity left a lasting impact on his community.

Jimmie and Linda loved to travel and see new places together. They especially enjoyed taking bus tours from the Shore, where they met and made lifelong friends.

Jimmie is survived by his daughter, Debra Johnson McWhinney and her husband, Mark McWhinney, and their daughters, Emma Olivia McWhinney and Katherine Taylor McWhinney, all of Mountain View, CA; sister, Ellen Turner and her husband, Allen, of Melfa, VA; brother-in-law, Bobby Sherwood of Greenbush, VA; sister-in-law, Sonny Johnson of Southside Chesconessex; great-grandchildren, Richard James Johnson II, Taylor Johnson Gardiner, Warren Scott Johnson, Kylie Lynn Johnson, and Bristol Lynn Johnson; and several nieces, nephews, and their families. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his son, Richard James Johnson; grandson, Patrick James Johnson; and siblings, Tommy Johnson, Biddy Johnson, Margaret Annis, Nancy Fisher, David Johnson, Phillip Johnson, and Sylvia Sherwood.

Funeral services will be conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Parksley Funeral Home on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 3:00 p.m., with Mr. George Fulk officiating. Interment will follow in the Parksley Cemetery. There will be a visitation at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
