Joanne Parks Daley, 74, wife of the late Terry James Daley, Sr., passed away Friday, August 23, 2024 at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, MD. A lifelong resident of Tangier Island, VA, Jo was born May 21, 1950 to the late Page Edmund Parks and Mildred Marie Wheatley Parks.
As valedictorian of the class of 1968, Jo was always one to set her sights high in all aspects of life. Soon after graduation she married Terry, her high school sweetheart, with whom she built a beautiful life for more than 44 years. Jo and Terry worked side by side as co-owners of the island’s grocery store, Daley & Son, as well as an ice cream shop and a tour taxi cart. Most recently, Jo enjoyed playing online games and sitting on her front porch watching passersby. Throughout her life, her faith in the Lord and love for her family never wavered, and her presence will be greatly missed throughout her community.
Jo is survived by her son, Terry James Daley, Jr.; sister, Patti Crockett; grandchildren, Chistopher Lance Daley, Hallie Daley, and Tara Daley; great-grandchildren, Jorden and Wyatt Daley; and several nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Harry Smith Parks; sister, Anita Lumsden; daughter-in-law, Stephanie Daley; grandson, Jordan Wesley Daley; and niece, Carolyn Annette Crockett.
A memorial service will be held at Swain Memorial United Methodist Church on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at 2:00 p.m., with The Reverend Charles W. Parks III and Elder Duane Crockett officiating. Interment will follow in the Wheatley Family Cemetery. There will be a visitation a half hour prior to the service at the church.
