Joseph Parker Charnock, 68, lifelong resident of Tangier Island, VA, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2023 at his residence. Born April 26, 1954, Joey was the eldest child of the late Thomas Gladstone Charnock and Mary Adlene Parks Charnock.
Joey, also known as “Lightening Joe” or “Joe Parker,” was a longtime waterman and rivaled most when it came to tonging oysters in the James River. Joey had a huge heart. He always helped anyone in need and without expectation of receiving anything in return.
In addition to his parents, Joey was predeceased by his wife, Lorraine Patricia Charnock; daughter, Jo Ann Gough; sister, Barbara Ann Coulbourne; and brothers, Thomas Gladstone Charnock, Jr., and David Andrew Charnock. He is survived by his youngest brother, John Robert Charnock of Crisfield, MD; his three children and their families; and a nephew.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
