Joyce Ann Starling

Joyce Ann Starling, 78, passed away Monday, July 3, 2023 at Norfolk General Hospital. Joyce had been a resident of Gloucester, Virginia for the past 27 years.

Joyce was born on January 14, 1945 in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Frank Turner, Jr. & the late Nellie Atkins Turner. In addition to her parents, Joyce is predeceased by her grandson, Patrick Stewart Carey.

Joyce was a graduate of Great Bridge High School and briefly did clerical work for the Department of Defense at Norfolk Naval Air Station. It was there that she met her husband of 55 years, George B. Starling. She retired from the workforce to become a devoted housewife and loving mother of two children.

She enjoyed arts & crafts, always keeping her hands busy while watching old westerns, classic movies & game shows on TV.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children; Sandra Jean Carey, Michael Starling (Beth), granddaughters; Alicia King (Bobby), Michelle Carey & Valerie Starling, great grandson Joshua King, sisters; Jeanne Lesoine & Sandy Hagaman (Jimmy), Uncle John Turner, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A service in celebration of Joyce’s life will be held at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, 8464 Tidewater Drive, Norfolk, Virginia, on Monday, July 10, 2023 at 1:00pm followed by interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
