Mrs. Leola Scott Kellam, 99, of Melfa, VA, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 15, 2025. Born on December 26, 1925 at the family home in Melfa, she was the daughter of the late Roy Calvin Scott and Gertrude Shrieves Scott.
Leola was a devoted, God-fearing woman whose faith was the foundation of her life. She was a longtime member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church and, in later years when her health prevented her from attending services, she faithfully listened to Pastor Jonathan Carpenter’s Sunday sermons from Exmore Baptist Church. Beyond her faith and family, Leola found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She especially looked forward to outings for a good meal and always had a fondness for Tammy and Johnny’s fried chicken.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Guy Steffee Doughty, in 1953, and her second husband, Elton C. Kellam, in 1991, as well as her nephew, Guy Grinnalds.
Leola is survived by her loving niece and nephew, Irene C. Killmon and husband Andy and Jack Grinnalds and wife Pat; great-nieces and nephews, KatherineAnn K. Donahoe, Susan K. Sukhia, and Beth, Ashely, Eric and Jonathan Grinnalds, as well as their families; cherished friend, Debbie Williams; and her dear friend and roommate at Shore Health and Rehabilitation Center, Rosebelle, with whom she shared companionship in her final months.
Leola’s life was a testament to faith, devotion, and quiet strength, and her memory will remain a blessing to all who knew and loved her.
Family and close friends are invited to gather for a graveside service at the Belle Haven Cemetery on Friday, September 19, 2025 at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Jonathan Carpenter officiating.
