Mr. Lewis Henry White, 86, lifelong resident of Chincoteague Island, VA, passed away Monday, January 7, 2019 at Shore Health and Rehabilitation Center in Parksley, VA.
Born December 5, 1932 on Chincoteague, he was a son of the late Harvey White and Lillie Thornton White. Lewis is survived by his daughter, Barbara F. Wilgus of Windsor, VA; two brothers, George White and wife Sandra of Atlantic, VA, and Ernest L. White and wife Connie of Chincoteague; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Willis White; and son-in-law, Grover E. Wilgus, Jr.
Lewis lived a modest lifestyle and preferred being under the radar. For most of his life, he worked as a waterman, with the exception of a few years as a police officer with the town of Chincoteague, and from time to time, he worked as a duck hunting guide. He was a member of the Accomack Masonic Lodge No. 243, A.F. & A.M., American Legion Post # 159, and enjoyed riding his motorcycle, a pleasure he continued until just recently.
Funeral services will be conducted from the graveside at the John W. Taylor Cemetery on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at 2:00 p.m., with The Reverend Maury Enright officiating.
