Linda Turner Obituary

On Sunday, September 18, 2022, the angels softly whispered, “It’s time to go home.,” as Linda Jones Turner, 77, of Melfa, VA, earned her wings and began her journey to heaven, with her loving family at her side.

Linda Rose Jones was born July 20, 1945 in Nassawadox, VA to Marvin Roland Jones and Helen Mae Smith Jones. Raised in a military family, Linda moved often throughout her school years and graduated from Newark High School, in Newark, DE. Following graduation, she returned home to the Eastern Shore of Virginia, establishing residency in Accomack County. For most of her adult life, Linda worked two jobs and unfailingly waived her own needs in order to support her family. She worked for Eastern Shore Printers for 40 years, where she wore many hats, but utilized most of her expertise processing and developing film negatives. During that time, she also worked part-time at the Roseland Theater, and later, for Peebles Department Store in Exmore, VA.

A motivator, giver, and unsung hero, Linda was constantly pushing forward in a positive direction and always with a clear mind, an open heart, and an extended hand. As a devoted mother, she understood the uniqueness of both of her children, recognizing what made them different. She applied this knowledge to their individual situations to help them understand the meaning and purpose of their experiences and how those experiences would benefit their path going forward. Although she never expected complete conformity, she instilled in her children the importance of how their actions, and those they interacted with, would affect their lives. Linda raised her children to never give up and to take pride in their work. Linda especially coveted her role as, “Mom-Mom.” She idolized her grandchildren and embraced every moment spent with them. In recent years, Linda looked forward to Wednesday visits with her sisters, with whom she shared a beautiful bond and special love.

Linda had a passion for crafts. Among her many talents were crocheting, knitting, beadwork, plastic canvas, cross-stitch, handmade jewelry, and stenciling. Over the years, her works of art were displayed at various functions on the Shore. Linda was also an avid BINGO player and was often found blotting cards several nights a week throughout the community. She was a collector of pitchers, magnets, and miniature shoes. Post retirement, you would find Linda watching her beloved westerns, game shows, and cooking shows.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Lisa Collins Bundick and James Lee “Jamie” Collins, Jr., both of Melfa; grandchildren, Derek Ellis Collins (Kayla) of Wilson, NC, Fallon Bundick Kanatus (Chad) of Sanford, VA, and Afton Danielle Bundick of Quinby, VA; great-grandson, Charles Lee “Charlie” Bloxom, who was the apple of her eye; sisters, Yvonne Jones “Vonnie” Denston of Melfa and Martha Jones Parks (Bruce) of Onley, VA; and many other loving relatives.

A service to celebrate Linda’s life will be conducted from the graveside at the Belle Haven Cemetery on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at 3:00 p.m., with The Reverend Albert Crockett officiating. There will be a visitation at the Williams-Onancock Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
