Mary Thompson Connelly

Mary Thompson Connelly, 91, of Springfield, VA, passed away Friday, January 6, 2023 at Shore Health & Rehabilitation Center in Parksley, VA. Born June 11, 1931 in Frederick, MD, she was the daughter of the late John Franklin Thompson and Mary Irene Seiss Thompson.

Mary spent her adulthood living in Northern Virginia, where she worked in banking for many years. She had a lifelong passion for the arts and was especially talented with acrylics, murals, sculptures, and interior decorating. A self-proclaimed contemplative, Mary was deeply spiritual and remained devoted to her faith. She was a dedicated member of Holy Spirit Church in Annandale, VA, where she looked forward to attending mass and feeling the Lord’s spirit through song. 

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Loretta Connelly Janiszewski and her husband, Michael, of Hallwood, VA, sister, Barbara Keyser and her husband, William; brothers, James and Richard Thompson; grandchildren, Sarah Wolff, Heather Love, Nathaniel Connelly, Colleen Wright, Laura Conly, and Stephanie Selby; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her caregiver of 15 years, Cherry Moser, whose care and compassion will be forever remembered by her family. In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her son, Edward Gregory Connelly; daughter, Kathleen Dawn Connelly; brother, John Thompson and his wife, Kozico; brother-in-law, Clint Mulks; great-granddaughter, Madeline Boles; as well as her cat, “Dandy” and dog, “Ginger.”

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, in Onley, VA, on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at 11:00 a.m., with Father Michael Imperial officiating.
