Mary Pride Obituary

Mary Ida Rosse Pride, 84, of Accomac, VA, passed away Friday, February 25, 2022 at her granddaughter’s home in Schooner Bay, Onancock, VA. Born August 7, 1937 in Locustville, VA, she was the daughter of the late John Thomas Rosse and Mary Elizabeth East Rosse.

Having been raised in a large family with six brothers and sisters, Mary’s genuine care and compassion for others began at a young age. As a mother of five, she was always there for her children, and later, for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As the kids grew older, Mary continued to fulfill her calling to help others through her work as a home health aide. She loved being surrounded by her family, often preparing Thanksgiving style meals with her newest recipe, and if in season, a side of turnip greens. Mary enjoyed crafts and was an exceptionally talented seamstress, never passed up the opportunity to go thrift store shopping, and loved all animals, especially cats.

In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her infant son, Richard Wayne Belote and her siblings, Alice Barnett, Hazel Crockett, Ann Allen and Robert “Bob,” Ivan and Morris Ross.

She is survived by her children, Tammy Chorman (Nelson) of Laurel, DE, Richard Ames (Clare Belote) of Milton, DE, William Scott (Melissa Belote) of Lewes, DE, and Charles “Eddie” Belote of Hampton, VA; grandchildren, Mary Matthews, Stephani Snead, Jennifer Stanhope, Dana Boyer, Leanna Elvenia, Amy Belote Vest, and Heidi, Richard and Edward Belote; great-grandchildren, Alexander “AJ” and Caleb Chrisman, who she raised as her own, Savannah, Aria and Liam Matthews, Lily, Iris and Willow Snead, Kylie and Carson Stanhope, Elizabeth and Lucas Fuller, Ava Boyer, Kai Bailey, Shiloh Frey, Layla Brisco, Eva Trimiew, and Samantha and Jeremy Vest; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Onancock Funeral Home on Monday, March 7, 2022 at 2:00 p.m., with The Reverend Robert Fletcher officiating. Interment will follow in the Edgehill Cemetery. There will be a visitation at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
