Sadly, on October 23, 2022, Michael Joe Fleming passed away following complications from a long illness.
Born August 23, 1958 in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Guy Clifford Fleming and Alma Marie Brown Fleming. Mike was raised, and spent most of his adult life, in Baltimore. Most recently, he resided in Accomac, VA.
Mike was a graduate of the Maryland Institute College of Art and worked in the graphic arts field. He was an accomplished artist and produced art in many mediums to include oil and watercolor paintings, clay sculptures, and pen and ink drawings. A nature enthusiast, Mike loved animals, reptiles, and bugs of all kinds. As a young boy, he had an impressive bug collection and knew more about insects than anyone. Throughout his life Mike was never without a pet, and especially favored cats. He excelled at creating gardens and loved to plant ferns, flowers, and trees.
Mike is survived by his niece and caregiver for the last 7 years, Brenda Poist, and her husband, Wayne; brother, Ron Fleming and his wife, Fran; sister, Debbie Shepherd and her husband, Michael; cousin, Cindy Kipp and her husband, Rick; his beloved cat, Scallop; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends. In addition to his parents, Mike was predeceased by his sister, Shirley Miller and her husband, Bunky.
The family will gather privately to celebrate Mike’s life.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Alley Cat Allies at www.alleycat.org.
