Monelle Newton-Brough Obituary

Monelle Margaret Newton-Brough, of Onancock, VA, passed away Saturday, October 23, 2021 at the age of 89. Born June 3, 1932 in Texas, she was the daughter of the late Dumont A. Mason and Florence Margaret Elliott Mason.

Monelle’s outgoing personality and kind demeanor made her easy to love and never without the company of friends and family. As a young woman, her timeless good looks, charm, and grace led her to participate in many beauty pageants. She had an insatiable passion for art and her work was well known throughout the community. Above all, Monelle always put family first, all of whom she adored.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Alexa Newton Shumate and her husband, Danny of Houston, TX; daughter-in-law, Nancy Haneys of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren, Mason and Peyton Shumate and Annabelle and Julia Newton; and cousins, Carolyn Short and Thomas Ramsey.

Family and friends will gather privately to celebrate Monelle’s life.
