Preston Richardson, age 82, died peacefully at home on December 26, 2025. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Linda; son, Joseph Richardson (Catherine); daughter, Kimberly Campbell (Thomas); and grandchildren, Macy and Tanner Richardson and Emma and Josh Campbell.
Preston, the son of Clyde Colonna and Beatrice Parker Richardson, was born on December 13, 1943, and raised in Wachapreague. Following graduation from Central High School, Preston enlisted in the United States Air Force where he trained as a Russian linguist at Syracuse University and in Monterey, CA. He was honored to be named valedictorian of his Advanced Russian class. Preston’s overseas tours with the Air Force included Germany and Turkey, both of which he enjoyed; however, his favorite posting, by far, was to Eielson AFB in Alaska, where he spent much of his free time hunting and fishing.
After serving in the Air Force for 16 years, Preston joined the National Security Agency, where he worked until he retired from federal service. When Linda retired in 2002, they returned to the Eastern Shore and built a home on Pungoteague Creek, where they have lived for the past 22 years. In retirement, Preston took up golfing. While he never mastered sport, he thoroughly enjoyed the companionship of his fellow golfers at the Eastern Shore Yacht & Country Club. Preston, a long-time member of Ocean View United Methodist Church, was an active participant in its meal delivery ministry.
Preston will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, good food and wine (even if the latter was not so good), and his dedication to his family.
The family is very grateful for the guidance, help, and support from the staff of Riverside Shore Hospice that allowed Preston to remain at home during his last days.
Burial services will be private.
