Richard Lynn Spohn

Richard Lynn Spohn, 71, beloved husband of Peggy Guthrie Spohn and a resident of Onley, VA, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2025 at Shore Health and Rehabilitation Center in Parksley, VA. Born August 28, 1953 in Sharon, PA and raised in Masury, OH, he was the son of the late John William Spohn, Sr. and Ella Nora Jewel Spohn.

After graduating from high school, Rick attended Slippery Rock University before transferring to Old Dominion University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in secondary education with a focus on English. He dedicated 15 years to teaching in both private and public middle and high schools across Virginia and Maryland. A passionate singer, Rick was a former member of the Eastern Shore Madrigals. He also had a love for writing short stories and poems and was a published author.

In addition to his wife of 27 years, he is survived by his children, Derek Spohn of Norfolk, VA, Elizabeth Spohn of Virginia Beach, VA, and Shari Buchanan and her husband, Devin, of Illinois; sister, Nora Humphrey of Sharon, PA; grandchildren, Nova, Declan, Damien and Kaylee Buchanan, and Anastasia Spohn; and several nieces and nephews and their families. Other than his parents, he was predeceased, by his brothers, Tim Alan Spohn, Edward Leroy Spohn, David Wayne Spohn, and John William Spohn, Jr.

To honor his wishes, no public service will be held.
