Mr. Robert A. Stewart, 87, of Schooner Bay, Onancock, VA, passed away at his home on Monday, December 1, 2020. Born May 30, 1933 in New York, NY and raised in the Washington Heights neighborhood, he was the son of the late George A. Stewart and Irene Bennett Stewart.
Mr. Stewart served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1953 with the rank of sergeant, having been stationed at Fort Eustis. Following discharge, he returned to New York and moved, along with his family, to northern New Jersey, where he married his neighborhood sweetheart, Kathleen Ruddy, in 1959. The new couple spent a short time living in Dumont, NJ, and later, found property in Northern Westchester County, in the town of Somers, where they built a home and started a family. Mr. Stewart joined the local Carpenters Union, and eventually opened his own boutique and customization company, before retiring to the Eastern Shore of Virginia.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife of 43 years, Kathleen Rudy Stewart. He is survived by his youngest son, Douglas, of Schooner Bay; sisters, Marie Stewart and Ruth Carroll, both of Roanoke, VA; and Margaret of Florida.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
