Roger Albert LaPlant, 70, husband of Kate Evans LaPlant and resident of Melfa, VA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at his home.
Born on November 4, 1952, in East Hartford, CT, he was the son of the late Edward H. LaPlant and Marjorie E. LaPlant.
Roger moved to the Eastern Shore over 30 years ago when he came to work with an old friend from Connecticut at Bobtown Nursery. He loved landscaping and could grow just about anything. He not only had a green thumb, but he loved all things green – it was his favorite color. He could be seen working on his and his wife’s property in Melfa, listening to Frank Zappa and planting trees and plants around his pool. When he wasn’t pruning vegetation, he was tinkering on vehicles and grasscutters in his “Happy Place,” his garage. He even watched garage TV shows or auto shows with Kate and his kids.
He will be missed by all who knew him. Roger was a character. But his legacy will live on with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of almost 25 years and children, Megan, Jason, Mary, J.L., and Christopher; brothers, Eddie, Gary, and Timmy, and their wives; 10 grandchildren; many best friends; and fur babies, Abby and Smoky.
Per Roger’s wishes, there will be no public service.
