Samuel Greene, Jr. Obituary

Mr. Samuel Phillip “Sammy” Greene, Jr., 74, husband of the late Deborah Leigh Greene and a resident of Hopeton, VA, passed away Friday, April 24, 2020 at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital with his loving family at his side. Born October 3, 1945 in Nassawadox, VA, he was the son of the late Samuel Phillip Greene and Della Marshall Greene.

Growing up on the family farm, Sammy learned the value of hard work at an early age. The many skills he gained from helping maintain the farm led him to pursue a career as a maintenance engineer, later retiring from Branscome. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Central Lodge No. 300 A.F. & A.M., the former Nelsonia Moose Lodge, and the NRA. Sammy liked to keep things simple and was as laid back as they come. He enjoyed going fishing and especially looked forward to riding the back roads, by car or Harley.

He is survived by his children, Phillip L. Greene and fiancé Brandi Pianka, Teresa Smith and husband Jack, Babette Kennovin and husband Neil, all of New Church, VA, Sonny J. Kelly of Seaford, DE, and Shawn Kelly of Hallwood, VA; sister, Sally Hickman and Ollie of Edgewater, MD; grandchildren, Phillip, Jr., Justin, Cody, and Lexi; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, Sammy was predeceased by his daughter, Cindy Greene.

A private graveside service will be held at the Parksley Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Riverside Shore Cancer Center, P.O. Box, 430, Onancock, VA 23417.
