Vickie Bowden Obituary

Vickie Elaine Bowden, 65, of Bloxom, VA, passed away Sunday, February 2, 2025, at her home.

Born on January 20, 1960, in Salisbury, MD, Vickie was the daughter of Winfred Lee “Winnie” Bowden, Sr. and Sandra Elaine Bowden. Vickie grew up and spent most of her life in Wilmington, DE, before moving to the ESVA a few years back.

Always one to hold her own, she could stand up to any man or woman twice her size. Vickie was a bartender and some might say—bouncer as well. If she loved you, she loved you, but if you crossed her, well, you’d do well just to get out of her way.

Vickie loved spending time with her family, camping and fishing. It was in nature that Vickie found her true peace. A little bit of country music on the radio, a fishing pole in her hand, her brother by her side, and a sunset on the creek was all she needed to put a smile on her face. Her love of animals was apparent any time Baby Girl and Sushi, her two favorite kitties, were around.

One of her favorite memories was traveling to old St. Augustine, FL, with her son, Nesbit. They traveled around the city and marveled at the architecture, stopping in at a bar or two along the way. After sightseeing and looking at the historical great crosses, they made their way to the water and it was there that she saw her favorite animal, the dolphin.

Graceful and free, the dolphins danced through the water with an effortless beauty. The way they broke through the water’s surface, as if carrying secrets of the deep. In their presence, the world felt lighter, if only for a moment, and Vickie and her son soaked in every moment of that peace. She will be greatly missed.

Vickie is survived by her son, Nesbit Alan Copenhaver, Jr.; granddaughter, Josephine Lee Copenhaver; sister, Tia Marie Morris (Eugene), of Narrows, VA; brothers, Winfred Lee Bowden Jr. (Michelle), of New Castle, DE, and Danny Ray Bowden (Sandra), of Narrows, VA; aunt, Joyce Bowden Webb, of Bloxom, VA; nieces, Nicole Bowden, Shannon Woodall, and Brytnie McMahon; and nephews, Nathan Bowden, Joseph Bowden, and Christopher Bowden.

She was predeceased by her parents, Winnie Bowden, Sr. and Sandra Bowden.

Per Vickie’s request, there will be no public service. In lieu of flowers, you can honor her memory by being kind to someone.
