Mr. Charles Joseph “Charlie” Thompson, 75, husband of Libbi Skipper Thompson and a resident of Atlantic, VA, passed away at his residence on Monday, December 19, 2016.

Born March 1, 1941 in Washington, DC, and reared in Rockville, MD, Charlie was a son of the late Warren Lee Whitmer and Jean Johnson Whitmer.  He was an asbestos worker in the insulation industry, and was a member of Local 24 – International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers, in Laurel, MD.  His memberships included the Onancock Lodge #1766, B.P.O.E.; Exmore Moose Lodge #683; and the American Legion.

In addition to his parents, Charlie was predeceased by a son, Christopher Thompson; and a brother, John Whitmer.  Joining his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Libbi, survivors include three sons, Brian Thompson of New Orleans, LA, Steven Thompson and his wife Susie, of Atlantic, VA; and Michael Thompson; his son Christopher’s wife Erica, of Monrovia, MD; six grandchildren, Jessica and Chase Thompson, Lauren and Brooke Thompson, and Lauren and Lindsey Shifflett; a sister, Laurie Whitmer Vie and her husband Edward, of Rockville, MD; two brothers, Jim Whitmer and his wife Terri, of Frederick, MD, and Tim Whitmer and his wife Barbara, of Point of Rocks, MD; his brother John’s wife, Beth, of Rockville, MD; and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Charlie’s Life is being planned for Spring 2017, with specific information shared at that time.
