Mr. Charles H. Walker, 95, of Bloxom, Va., passed away peacefully at his home Sunday morning, August 30, 2015.  Mr. Walker was born on January 12, 1920, and was the son of Charles Howard Walker and Ethel Gardner Walker of Norfolk, Va., near Lambert's Point.

Mr. Walker lived a long and eventful life.  In May of 1942, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving with the 5th Signal Corp.  On June 6, 1944, he landed on the Omaha Beach, and later saw Paris liberated.  While in Czechoslovakia, he learned that the war in Europe was over, and he would be going home.  Upon his return, he was immediately hired by the C&P Telephone Company, thanks to skills he learned while in the Signal Corp.  After coming to the Eastern Shore, Mr. Walker met, and later married, Virginia Savage of Modest Town, Va.

Mr. Walker loved the Eastern Shore, where he enjoyed fishing, boating and other family activities.  He was a loyal and devoted member of Modest Town Baptist Church, serving as a deacon for over fifty-six years; and was a longtime member of the Seabay-Metompkin Ruritan Club.

Mr. Walker was predeceased by his parents; his loving wife of sixty-three years, Virginia Savage Walker; his son, Charles H. Walker, Jr.; his son-in-law, Barry Rolander; and his three sisters and one brother.  He is survived by a large and loving family:  his two daughters Ethel (Mark) Little, and Anne Rolander; his seven grandchildren, Andrew Walker, Luke (Nikki) Little, Marko (Pam) Little, Kaycee (Jarrett) Price, John (Jamie) Rolander, Cara Rolander (Mark), Brian (Lauren) Rolander; and thirteen great-grandchildren.  He also had many nieces, nephews, and their families, for whom he greatly cared.

Funeral services will be held at Modest Town Baptist Church, Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at 4:00 p.m., with a visitation held one hour prior to the service.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Modest Town Baptist Church Memorial Fund, C/O Mr. William H. West, P.O. Box 66, Nelsonia, Va.  23412, or to Hospice of the Eastern Shore, 165 Market Street, Suite 3, Onancock, Va.  23417.
