Mr. Eugene Stephen “Gene” Carey, 58, partner and best friend of Jeff Coffey, and a resident of Parksley, VA, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2018 at his home.
Born July 12, 1959 in Salisbury, MD, he was a son of the late Kenneth Wayne Carey and Florence Evelyn Carey. Following high school, Gene attended Wor-Wic Community College and Greensboro College. In the early 90’s, Gene met Jeff and soon after he relocated to the Eastern Shore, where he has made lasting friendships and countless memories over the years. As a faithful fan of the Maryland Terrapins and the Baltimore Ravens, football was one of his greatest passions, and he rarely missed a game. Gene looked forward to “Sunday Fun Day” at the Elks with Jeff and their friends, and he especially enjoyed sitting on his back deck, relaxing and enjoying the breeze.
In addition to his partner, Jeff, he is survived by two sisters, Robin Ann Bennett and husband William of Salisbury and Gidget Michelle Carey of Parsonsburg, MD; two brothers, Wayne William Carey and wife Diane of Cambridge, MD and Darren Allen Carey and wife Nikki of Altoona, PA; nieces and nephews, Tara, John, Christopher, Katelyn, Kenneth, Jenna, Phillip, Joy, Timothy, Darren, Brittany, and Brianna; great-nieces and great-nephews, Noah, Riley, Logan, Charlotte, Caroline, Beckham, Asher, and Parker; dear friends, Steve and April Kolbush, their son Riley, their daughter Amanda, and her children Paige Kelly and Carter Riggs, Uncle Johnny Porter, and Pat and Ruth; and his beloved cats, Winifred and Rabbit.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Parksley Funeral Home on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 2:00 p.m., with The Reverend John Cullop officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
