Mr. Timothy Curley “Tim” Marshall, 71, husband of Lana Jean Shores Marshall and a lifelong resident of Tangier, Va., passed away at his residence on Saturday, January 30, 2016, surrounded by his loving family.
Born December 13, 1944 on Tangier Island, he was a son of the late Homer Cooley Marshall and Margaret Virginia Parks Marshall “Dace” Dize, and step-son of the late Franklin Record Dize. Tim retired from the Virginia Marine Resource Commission and was a former Tangier Police officer. He was a devoted member of New Testament Church, having served as a Deacon; enjoyed wood-working, and was especially proud of his work in co-founding the Word of Life Basketball Marathon on Tangier Island, with Ralph Green.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Beverly Marshall Parks and husband Edward, of Tangier, and Billie Jo “Sis” Palmer Steed of Prince George, Va.; two sisters, Arlene “Fern” Parks, and Marsha Franklin McCready and her husband Danny Ray, all of Tangier; six grandchildren, Lindsay Photakos and her husband Steve, Schyler Parks, Timothy Palmer, Drew Parks, Forrest Steed, and Lance Parks; two great-grandchildren, Mason and Camden Photakos; two sisters-in-law, Wanda Lynn Marshall, and Mona Eskridge Marshall, who was also a caregiver; several nieces and nephews; and additional caregivers, Nancy Crockett and Fern Tyler. Other than his parents and step-father, he was predeceased by two brothers, Teddy Ross Marshall, and William Terry “Aub” Marshall; and a brother-in-law, William M. “Bill” Parks.
Funeral services will be conducted from the New Testament Church, Thursday, February 4, 2016 at 2:00 p.m., with Elder Jerry F. Pruitt, Robert D. Crockett, and William A. Pruitt officiating. Interment will follow in the New Testament Church Cemetery, followed by a reception at the Tangier Combined School. There will be a visitation at the church on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
