Mrs. Helen Marie Carmine, 88, wife of the late Sidney E. Carmine, Jr. and a resident of Southside Chesconnessex, Va., passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2015, at Riverside Shore Rehabilitation Center in Parksley, Va., where she had resided for the last four years.

Born July 17, 1926 in Tasley, Va., she was a daughter of the late Laymon Cherrix and Bertha Gardner Cherrix.  Until her illness, Helen was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Hunting Creek, Va.  She loved her family and the outdoors.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda H. Gardner and her husband Howard, of Southside Chesconnessex; two grandchildren, Tina Hemphill of Dover, Del., and Vickie Parker and her husband Darrell, of Onancock, Va.; four great-grandchildren, Wayne Hemphill of Del., and Preston, Dylon and De’Anna Bradford of Virginia Beach, Va.; a sister, Nancy C. Shorter and her husband E.B., of Newport News, Va.; a brother, Robert W. “Bobby” Cherrix of Wachapreague, Va.; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Helen was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara C. Lauer; and two sisters, Margaret A. Thornes and Mildred C. “Mickey” Carmine.

Funeral services will be conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Onancock Funeral Home, Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Freddie Ward officiating.  Interment will follow in the Mount Holly Cemetery.  A visitation will be held at the funeral home, one hour prior to the service.
