Phil was a unique character. He took me under his wing when I was a rookie ECO, and showed me how important our job was, and how to have fun doing it. He was always one of my favorite officers, and I was sorry to see him retire so many years ago. We have all lost a great man. My deepest sympathies to his family and friends.

We were deeply saddened to learn of our friend and neighbor Phil passing away. Phil was a good man and neighbor. Johnny and I enjoyed talking to Phil in our yard on several occasions, although we only knew Phil for the last three years since we bought a home in Harborton, it seems like we have known Phil all our lives, Phil was easy to talk to and usually had something to say to put a smile on your face. We last saw and talked to Phil at Mary Ellen's Postal retirement reception on March 7, 2015 which seems like only yesterday. Phil will be missed by all that touched his life. Our thoughts and prayers are with our friend and neighbor Lori and the rest of his family. Rest is peace dear friend until we meet again.

Lorraine, we have never met, but I am so truly grateful for all of the updates on Phil's journey. My daughter and I truly enjoyed Phil's friendship throughout the years. I was shocked to hear about his battle because he had such a healthy life.

He was a truly a genuine soul. Had no malice in his heart, ever towards anyone or anything. Loved life and all that lived. Great positive outlook always. Along with his family and friends, Mother Earth will miss him as well.

God Bless You and if you are ever this way please contact me. I would love to meet you.

Dear, dear, Lorraine:

We have been terribly and permanently affected by what has happened to Phil and you.

Phil was the last person in the world to whom we thought this would happen. He was fit, strong, smart, fun loving, sensitive, a good cook, a skilled handyman, a lover of nature, knowledgeable in so many subjects, and comfortable in the life he loved with you and the beautiful area he became a part of.

Phil was also a part of our lives, for more than 60 years a loyal friend. He gave us the gift of his respect and time, from when he sent letters to Mickey stationed in Labrador in the 1960’s, to the offers to help with transportation to and from Cleveland in 2009 for Mickey’s surgery, to his frequent visits with us in Maine and / Florida. There are many places, especially in Maine, which will ALWAYS represent Phil and Lorraine. Phil emailed frequently, and telephoned, as hard as that was with his poor ability to hear, and mailed us things that he found that he knew would interest us.

Phil was very lucky, too, when he found you. We do not know what would have happened to him had he not done so. From we who could not be there to help him in his last days, we thank YOU for being there. You have become our friend now, and memories of Phil will always be linked to you. Phil loved you, and we love you too.

Our sincere and condolences go to all those who held him dear, and who will miss him so much.

Love, Mickey and Cyndy

I love you Dad, and I will miss you with all my heart. I will always be your little girl. I know you will be watching over me and my son. I will always cherish the fun we had when I was a kid, and the great conversations we had like friends when I became an adult. May you now rest in peace Dad.

Jenny, it will be hard for us both. Know your father always loved you and cherished the time he spent with you. He told me many stories of your growing up. I want you to know your dad was always proud to be your father and loved you with all his heart -even when he did the dad thing of scolding you or having a difference of opinion. Thank you for helping me get through this, Lorraine

Phil,

What a legacy you leave behind...! It is hard to type as tears flood my cheeks.. You were a jovial jokester, who lived life and your precious daughter ,my best friend, Jenny .. I hope you are enjoying the inlets of the Chesapeake, soaring high .. Look for my mom, she's on a beach somewhere, with a baby oil bottle with iodine , can't miss her! You will be sorely missed but will be remembered with every sunset I see and every natural stream I visit ... May you rest in eternal peace! Until we meet again my friend!!!!
