Helen Mae (Long) Mears, 90, was called home by her Lord on Monday, March 2, 2015, at the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center in Easton, Md.  She was formerly from Onancock and Bloxom, Va.

Mrs. Mears was the widow of Lamertine B. Mears, to whom she was married for 38 years, and the late Johnnie C. Long who was killed in WWII on the Beaches of Normandy, France.  Born February 10, 1925, she was a daughter of Lewis Thomas Taylor and Lillie Mae (Gibbs) Taylor.  Helen was a God-fearing devoted woman who loved her Lord first, then family, church and friends.  She was formerly involved in Bloxom Wesleyan Church in Bloxom, as a youth president, Sunday school teacher, and as alto in ensembles and the church choir.  Her pastimes were spent reading the Bible, praying, caring about others, cooking, gardening and celebrating life with family and friends.  Helen will be deeply missed by her loving family, friends and all who knew her.  Helen’s last three work experiences were:  a worker for Young’s Meat Barn, in customer service at Montgomery Ward Catalog Store, and as a nurse’s aide at Accomack County Nursing Home (currently Riverside Shore Rehabilitation Center), all of these in Parksley, Va.  She attended Bloxom High School in Bloxom, and was an active member of Calvary Bible Church of Onancock, Va.

Survivors include a son, Johnnie C. Long, Jr. and his wife Vivian of Pocomoke, Md.; a daughter, Kristy (Mears) Burch and her husband Gregory of Germansville, Pa.; grandchildren, Sandra (Laticia) Morgan, Connie Everhart and Phillip Long; great-grandchildren, Robyn and Shawn Wilkerson, Chandler Everhart (deceased at birth), Carter and Christian Everhart, and Seth and Christopher Morgan; and a sister, Mary Killmon of Salisbury, Md. (formerly of Onancock, Va.) and Mrs. Killmon’s predeceased husband Warren.  In addition to her husbands, parents, grandchild and brother-in-law, Mrs. Mears was predeceased by sisters and their husbands, Beatrice Taylor and her husband Garfield of Winterville, Va., Myrtle Morris and her husband William of Salisbury, Md., Doris Ellis and her husband Grover of Stockton, Md., and Mabel Reade and her husband Page of Melfa, Va.; brothers and their predeceased wives, Ralph M. Taylor and his wife Alice Taylor Barnett of Salisbury, Md., Ralph G. Taylor of Salisbury, Md., Melvin Taylor and his wife Helen of Onancock, Va..

Funeral services will be conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Parksley Funeral Home, Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 11:00 a.m.  There will be a visitation at the funeral home, one hour prior to the service.  Interment will be held at the Downing’s Cemetery in Oak Hall, Va.
